  • Choose your preferred pickup location.

We’ll notify you when your items are ready for pickup. Available items are generally ready within 1-2 business days. If an item is currently checked out, you’ll be added to the request queue.

Returning Items

Return items (including InterLibrary Loan items) inside either Library location during open hours or use the outdoor return chutes at each building.

  • FCL Farmington Hills: The return chute is on the east side of the building, facing the Post Office.
  • FCL Farmington: During Library hours, use the return box on the driveway between the Library and City Hall. When the Library is closed, use the return chute on the east side of the building, facing the parking lot.

Items cannot be returned at the 24/7 Hold Pickup Lockers.

Account Notifications

The Library sends automated notifications about your requested and borrowed items via text or email, depending on which communication method you selected when applying for your FCL card. You can manage how you receive notifications by contacting the Library's Circulation Department:

  • Phone: (248) 553-0300 ext. 351

Late Items and Replacement Fees

At FCL, we do not charge late fees on items returned after their due date. This policy helps ensure that everyone in our community can enjoy fair access to the Library's collections.

What does no late fees mean? You won’t be charged a daily fee if you return an item after the due date. However, you are still responsible for returning your items.

Lost or Damaged Items

  • If an item is lost or damaged, you will be charged a replacement fee.

  • An item is considered lost if it is not returned within 45 days of the due date.

  • An item is considered damaged if it can no longer be used by others.

Fees on Your Account

  • If you have a lost or damaged item, a replacement fee will appear on your account.

  • If you return a lost item, the replacement fee will be removed from your account.

  • If your fees for lost or damaged items total $15 or more, your account will be placed on hold until the fees are paid.

Please note: Items borrowed through the Interlibrary Loan program also do not have late fees. Lost or damaged Interlibrary Loan items will result in a replacement fee. The lending library controls how much to charge for the replacement of lost or damaged InterLibrary Loan items.

Third-Party Notifications

  • If your fees exceed $25 for more than 21 days, a third-party agency (Unique Management Services) will contact you by phone and email to request payment and return of materials.

  • At this point, a $10 service fee will be added to your account.
