The Farmington Community Library (FCL) recently launched Create and Connect, a program for adults ages 60 and older that offers opportunities to socialize and work on creative projects in a welcoming environment.

Participants can bring their own creative projects or try something new using the variety of art and craft supplies available at each session. Light breakfast refreshments are also provided.

The program was made possible by a $2,000 grant awarded by the Molina Healthcare of Michigan Grant Program. The grant was part of Molina Healthcare of Michigan’s initiative to fund library pilot programs addressing social isolation among older adults. The programs aim to reduce loneliness and strengthen community well-being through opportunities for connection at partnering libraries.

As FCL’s Senior Outreach Librarian, Anna Hay works directly with older adults in the community and understands the value of opportunities to connect with others.

“As the Library’s Senior Outreach Librarian, I work with seniors daily and know that opportunities to socialize and connect with others are extremely important for their physical and mental health. Create and Connect provides a space to make friends and creatively engage in artmaking in a fun, welcoming atmosphere. This program also helps address our community’s desire for more arts and crafts workshops and more events for seniors. I’m very grateful for this opportunity and funding from Molina Healthcare and the Superiorland Library Cooperative!”
