The Library is excited to announce the lineup of events for its 25th annual MLK Weekend Celebration, honoring the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Over the past 25 years, the celebration has grown from a single day to a full weekend of community activities.
Collection Drive
Between January 2-31, we will be collecting items to support CARES of Farmington Hills. Contributions will provide essential supplies and comfort to individuals and families in our community.
We are accepting:
- Size 5 or 6 diapers
- Toilet paper
- Non-perishable food items
Collections will be accepted at both Farmington Community Library locations.

Hustle Line Dancing
2-3 p.m. | Auditorium
Come dance with us and enjoy 90 minutes of upbeat line dancing fun! Each hustle will be taught step by step, making it easy to follow—even for beginners. After learning and reviewing the moves, we’ll put it all together and dance to the music.

"Selma, Lord, Selma" Film Screening

Join us for a screening of Selma, Lord, Selma (1999). This event is intended for ages 8+.
Synopsis: In 1965, Sheyann and Rachel, two African-American girls from Selma, Alabama, become active in the Civil Rights Movement after they witness a speech by Martin Luther King Jr. Along with a White seminary student named Jonathan, the two young girls participate in the famous Selma-to-Montgomery voting rights march, and remain strong even in the face of racism and violence (Genre: Drama; Run time: 1 hr. & 36 mins; Rated: TV-PG).
Ryan Pearson brings a multifaceted background in Film, Creative Arts/Nonprofit Administration, and Theatre. She earned a B.A. in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Film from the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor and an M.A. in Theatre Arts & Arts Administration from the University of California–Santa Cruz, sharpening her skills across performance and media arts. Ryan has also led innovative programming and community engagement that elevated BIPOC Detroit filmmakers. She identifies as a Griot/Storyteller, Strategist, and Shapeshifter.

The Dr. King Legacy March brings families and community members together to honor Dr. King’s impact. With our signs and posters, we will walk down the sidewalk along 12 Mile Road. Please wear appropriate clothing for cold temperatures and icy sidewalks. Warm up afterward with hot chocolate in the auditorium!
