Farmington Community Library (FCL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Steven Snead as its newest Trustee, representing the City of Farmington.
Dr. Snead, who brings over 23 years of experience in K-12 education with a specialization in data analysis, measurement, and assessment, will serve a four-year term expiring June 30, 2028. He holds a B.A. in Secondary Education from the University of Michigan, a M.Ed. from Wayne State University, and a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Missouri. Dr. Snead currently serves as the Supervisor of the Curriculum & Assessment Unit at Oakland Schools Intermediate School District.
Dr. Snead’s decision to join the Board stems from his passion for community service and a desire to contribute to the ongoing success of the Library’s mission. “I was simply looking for ways that I could use my talents to serve my community,” said Dr. Snead. “I believe in serving others and building a future where all people can thrive and experience joy.”
Since moving to Farmington in 2020 with his wife, Dr. Snead has valued the city’s welcoming atmosphere, vibrant downtown district, and the many opportunities it provides for families and residents. He recognizes the Library as a cornerstone of the community, fostering literacy, lifelong learning, and cultural connection. “The Library is a welcoming, inclusive space that belongs to everyone. Everyone can find themselves in our library system, from young students discovering hidden treasures in books to our honored elders enjoying events that keep them active and connected,” he added.
Library Director, Kelley Siegrist, expressed her enthusiasm for Dr. Snead’s appointment, stating, “Dr. Snead appears committed to making the Library a space that serves everyone in the community. His focus on accessibility and assessment will bring a data-driven approach to understanding how the Library is being used and where innovations can be made.”
As he begins his tenure, Dr. Snead looks forward to engaging with residents to better understand their needs and aspirations for FCL. “I am looking forward to learning more about what patrons want and need from the Library, while also exploring what the future of FCL might look like.”
