The Farmington Community Library (FCL) has been awarded a $1,000 from the Farmington & Farmington Hills Foundation for Youth & Families (FFHFYF) to continue its early literacy book giveaway program. This initiative encourages caregivers to begin reading aloud to newborns—a vital first step in building strong literacy skills.
The Farmington & Farmington Hills Foundation for Youth & Families supports programs and provides funds to enrich the lives of youth and families in the communities of Farmington and Farmington Hills.
The program is offered in partnership with Trinity Health IHA Medical Group Pediatrics – Farmington Hills and launched in February 2025 with initial funding from FFHFYF. Through this collaboration, free books are distributed to families with newborns during their 2-month and 6-month wellness visits. Families also receive information about Text and Learn for Kindergarten (TALK), a text messaging service offered by FCL that provides weekly prompts with simple, fun activities designed to help children ages 0-5 develop early literacy skills.
In addition to this program, FCL offers a variety of services for parents and caregivers of young children, including Storytimes and the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. Click here to learn more about early literacy services at FCL.
