Position: Library Science Student Intern – Children’s Services Department (Non-Exempt)
Hours: Up to 19 hours/week, including days, nights, and weekends on a flexible basis
Location: FCL Farmington Hills (32737 W. 12 Mile Rd.)
Length: Desired start May 19 - August 23, 2025 (flexible)
Responsibilities:
The Student Intern reports to the Head of Children’s Services. This position may qualify for academic credit, with specifics to be arranged by the student, the Head of Children’s Services, and the manager of the school’s internship program or equivalent.
- Providing quick and accurate reference and reader’s advisory services to the public
- Assist with Library events, including outreach activities, under the supervision of Library staff
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in a School of Information/Library Science Master’s accredited program
- Ability to work successfully with diverse patrons of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds
- Positive attitude and approach to problem solving, customer service and public service
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organization and planning skills
- Maintains a prompt and reliable attendance record
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with children
- Experience working in a public library or other customer service setting
Physical Activity Requirements:
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
Salary: $18.80 per hour
